Dear friends of Zac
Welcome to the shared memories of all Zac’s friends. Zac was known to capoeiristas in Bantus Singapore as Jabuti. In Perth, the Bantus capoeiristas knew him as Bola. But everyone knew him as the big guy with the biggest heart for everyone. And we all wept when his big heart was stolen out from our midst by unseen Hands. We love you Zac! And we still miss you. This one is for you.

In Memory of One of Our Own
(22 December 1980 – 9 January 2008)
With great sorrow in our hearts, we announce the passing of a dear friend to many of us, Zach (aka Jabuti aka Bola), who left our world this evening suddenly. Zach, we will miss you so sorely.
With the Bantus tribe @ Sony-MTV Roadshow, The Hereen, 13 Jan 2007.
In memory of Zach, feel free to share something you know about Zach as his friend which we can all remember him by. Thank you.
Bantus Japan has also written an entry in memory of Jabuti. http://jp.bantus.org/2008/01/11/rip-jabuti
Postscript: Jabuti’s body was laid to rest at noon today (Saturday 12 January 2008). Farewell, dear brother. We love you very much.
Cafune It was really sad to hear this terrible news. I remember Jabuti’s big smile, and training with him in Perth. Part of our Bantus family is missing but will always remain in our hearts. My condolences to Zach’s family. Jan 14, 5:13 PM
Zangada Zach, your love and joy for Capoeira was shining from your very soul with every swing in the ginga. You are greatly miss by GBC Australia. I cannot express how deeply this has affected the Bantus Family. I feel so much love and respect for everybody that is intertwined in the Bantus community. Rest in peace xxxZangada. Jan 13, 5:10 PM
MOb He was a very caring and loving person, who never failed to help his mates. During our poly days, we always studied together for exams. He always lent me his notes. So when I received the sms, i was like “u gotta be kidding me..”, so i went to call his other friends to confirm the news but still I refused to believe it until I saw his body with my own eyes lying there. I was shocked and tears kept rolling down my eyes. I remember the times we had in poly studying.. skipping lecture.s. chilling.. cool friend he is.. The last time we met was 3 to 4 yrs back, when nadia jordan went to Perth and Zack gave me a lift and dropped me off Tanah Merah MRT. He said, “Khairil, I think I won’t live passed 30.” Now he is.. gone. Zack, u are one good friend and u will be greatly missed..Jan 13, 5:15 AM
Claudinho I don’t need to say much. Everyone knows Jabuti was a very nice guy. He was always happy and friendly. For me, it is very hard to lose a nice friend like him. He was an excellent student and a great capoeirista. My condolences to his family… Rest in peace brother. AXE!!!Jan 13, 12:44 AM
Picole All I remembered about Jabuti was his infectious outlook in life. He was always smiling and very friendly. We only trained for 1 or 2 sessions together and chatted on MSN for a short bit after our first Batizado in Singapore, didn’t expect him to go at such a young age. You’ll always be in our hearts. You will be missed

Mestre Pintor. Jan 12, 5:28 AM
Tocha I really can’t accept that this has happened. Jabuti was such a nice and happy person, his smiles were always overflowing with brightness and joy. It felt like yesterday when he was driving, chilling and eating out with us when we went down to Perth. He was so enthusiastic during the capoeira games at Perth and I clearly remembered how happy he was and how the crowd was cheering and clapping for him when he proceeded to the next game… On the last day when I was leaving Perth with my parents, I coincidentally bumped into him as he was there to send Zôi off. He accompanied us all the way till we had to go in. He even sat down and chatted with my parents about stuff… his studies… his mum… so on…My parents were greatly saddened when they heard the news. Jabuti, you will always be remembered not only by me, but also my parents, as a happy, kind, loving and caring guy with a big heart…I regretted not knowing you better…Rest well…Jan 11, 6:53 PM
Caçapa RIP Jabuti. You were too young. Jan 11, 5:28 PM
David (Fransoa) from Tokyo I was very sad to hear the news this morning… I had met Zac in Perth last September, as I came with my friends from Bantus Japan to join the world meeting organized in my teacher’s hometown. Since the very beginning, Zac was extremely friendly and seemed to me to be a very loving person, someone with a pure heart such as I had barely met ever before in my life… Zac was so young, so energetic and so much willing to learn more capoeira. His future was so bright, how could that happen? I am very sad that he has gone today, because I was expecting to meet him again in the near future… Thank you Gringo, Kasapa and all of the other Bantus instructors for having organized this event and given me the chance to meet Zac last fall in Perth. I will always keep good memories of you Zac, May your soul rest in peace. Special thoughts to Zac’s dearest friends and family from the Japan crew. Jan 11, 4:59 PM
bermuda condolences to jabuti’s family… i may not know him but it’s sad when a fellow capoeirista passes on in life. you’ll never walk alone. Jan 11, 9:09 AM
Cotonete from Japan I remember him. Because, though I cannot speak English, he talked to me. Rest in peace. Jan 11, 9:04 AM
Sombra Jabuti, it pains me greatly to bid you farewell, and I regret that I did not know you better. You were always ready with a smile, and I remember the laughs we had together. When you moved, I thought I’d meet you again someday, and who knows, maybe I will. My condolences to your family. You’ll remain as a friend in my heart. Jan 10, 6:15 PM
flochan Indio, thanks for the thought. Claudinho had done it for the Thursday night class and I’m sure he’ll have another one for Friday night class since not all of us were there tonight. See you tomorrow.
Jan 11, 2:19 AM
Indio You were a good guy, Jabuti. You would always smile and were always nice to just about everyone. I’m just sad I didn’t get to see you again. Indio.
I don’t know about anyone else, but for anyone goin to friday training, I think we should have a moment of silence for the big guy. Jan 10, 5:35 PM
Baiana Zahari was my childhood friend…we grew up together in Bedok South playing silly kid games like catching, football, basketball, hide & seek etc. He was just a bubbly little kid then, like a kid brother I never had…always smiling, happy, enthusiastic and full of energy. As we grew up, we drifted apart but we met again in the later years when he was working at Starbucks, Changi Airport T1. He would supply me with enough caffeine to make my working hours go by smoothly, especially during my night shifts. When I bumped into him last year, I found out that he did capoeira too. I remembered telling him that I hope our friendship would not change, just because we were from different capoeira groups…and he said never. I am really sad to learn of his passing, my deepest condolences to his family. We have lost a great friend, a brother and a capoeirista….and my heart goes to him. Meus pessames e que ele descançe em paz, Baiana. Jan 10, 3:27 PM
rafael and gbc malaysia go in peace brother, bantus capoeira always remember you!!! rafael and gbc malaysia. Jan 10, 1:37 PM
Tocador He is not only a friend. He is a brother to me. I promised him that i’ll be there in Perth to watch him getting his first belt and spend my time over there with him. But i didn’t expect that it will be the last cord he’ll be getting. Lots of fun we had when we were in Perth. We spent day and night talking about anything. Bro, I’ll definitely miss those times we had. I will always remember you as a humble, gentle and great guy with a big heart and a Capoeirista. There will only be one Jabuti and that Jabuti will be miss by lots of us coz he is one of our family. Rest well bro…Love, Tocador. Jan 10, 1:28 PM
Pouca Coisa You’re a gentle giant who leave a legion of friends behind. Bro, each time I talked to you over the phone, it’s always Bantus, Bantus, Bantus. You’ve shown to me that if you preservere in life, you’ll make it. No matter what or who you are. You took sorrows and hardships in stride and laughter filled your life. Your short stay has etched a lifetime of memories in my mind. You left this world, admiringly, with Bantus spirit. “Semoga Allah mengampunkan kamu dan letakkan kamu di tempat orang-orang yang beriman disisiNya. Al-Fateha. Amin.” Jan 10, 9:27 AM
Sabao Sadly I only knew Zach during the short stay I had in Perth. However, I remember him being a very vibrant person and always with a smile on his face. I’m very shocked to hear that he has and was looking forward to catching up with him in KL or Singapore in the future. My condolences to all his family.Jan 10, 8:42 AM
flochan jabuti, i’m heartbroken over your sudden departure. you had a beautiful heart and you never ever took friendship for granted. you always made the effort to keep in touch. i will remember our conversations about life, love and God. and i will miss you so much because i am now learning that expensive lesson of never taking anything for granted. your passing is a painful reminder of how frail life is. i only wished you could have been here longer with us. you worked two jobs while going to school so that you can have a future and still had time for capoeira and friends.i wished we could have said goodbye properly so i can thank you for being my friend. Jan 10, 1:54 AM
Tempeiro he came…..we loved…..he’s left…..we still love. Jabuti had a really big heart for all his friends. He openly declared that he was very thankful for the friendship we all had with him and encouragement we gave. I believe he would want the group to keep up the good axé and treat everyone with the same amount of respect and care. Jabuti was so lovable………….we’ll miss you brother. Jan 10, 12:26 AM
Giraia in memory of Jabuti. a great friend, a capoeirista, a brother. there are many memories I have of zac, his happiness in starting Capoeira with us here in Singapore, and his hospitality when we went over to the Perth Batizado, right down to when he sent us off at the airport. Zac reminds me that everyone can do Capoeira and everyone can love Capoeira. He had always did his best to train and the happiness in his eyes whenever he successfully did a new move was always infectious. we were all so happy for him when he won his ribbon during the Bantus Capoeira games in Perth. I remember saying goodbye to him at the airport and us promising to meet up again as soon as possible, I still can’t believe he’s gone. I’ll always be missing you, Zac. Jan 10, 12:16 AM
Lua just like all of u, i was shocked when i received the news. Tho I did not see him alot in training but i remembered him as a friendly and fun person. I also remember the last time i saw him at Attica b4 he left SG..those were the memories. My deepest condolences to his family. We will always miss you. Jan 9, 11:49 PM

Camille / Coruja Jabuti is a sweetheart whom I will miss dearly. Those few months that we were training, hanging out together and chatting late into the night over sheesha were good & fun times. He alway had a smile on his face when he comes up to greet you. He also has an admirable perseverance to always train harder at Capoeira. I’m glad you got your corda sista and I’m sorry I didn’t make it down to Perth to see you. I really wished I did. God bless you and may you be happy with your mum. I’ll miss you. Jan 9, 10:39 PM
